A new garden for Wickhambreaux

Exciting news! I’ve been working with the Wickhambreaux Village Hall Committee to design a new garden for the front of the village hall.

You can see my plans for the garden right here.

Biodiversity funding from Kent County Council

To create a dense and biodiverse planting scheme requires quite a lot of money; and not having enough funding for this project was my main concern. However, the team from the Village Hall Committee have done an incredible job of finding the cash in the form of a grant from Kent County Council (KCC)

KCC will be supporting the project with £1,500 to cover the cost of planting. That’s amazing!

When will the garden be ready?

Work on the garden has already begun, and we aim to begin planting before the end of March.

We’re still waiting to hear back from another funder who may be able to help us pay for the hard landscaped path. Fingers crossed!

The garden will remain closed while plants establish but will be visible from the entrance to the village hall. Hopefully, by mid-summer the garden will be open for everyone to enjoy!

Even if I wasn’t your mum I would have to make a comment on this ‘new garden for Wickhambreaux’ post.
Well done Wickhambreaux village hall committee for supporting the application to KCC for biodiversity funding – AND what a fantastically interesting garden plan Joe. I really value the way you have explained why you are using particular plants and how you place them in the design to give the overall effect and atmosphere that you are aiming to create . I expect that others who like me have looked at the details outlined in the plan will be using some of your suggested plants in their own gardens.!
I am especially interested in the various reasons why it is sensible to plant densely though I realise that it is not just about ‘filling the gaps’ (which is what I might have done 🤔) . It definitely IS about having the design skills and professional knowledge of what you are doing. So THANKS Joe for mentoring through your posts.
